Patrick Campion, Chairman’s Message February 2016

Posted on Tuesday, 23 February 2016

Patrick Campion, Chairman of City Tattersalls Club in this issue provides an update on the Airspace Development, Club Trading status, Boonoona Ski Lodge and Club Membership Renewals.

AIRSPACE DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

The journey has begun!! City Tattersalls Club members overwhelmingly voted in favour of the airspace development in December 2015 which means that 2016 will be the first part in a five (5) to six (6) year journey. 2016 should see us obtain the Stage 1 Development Approval (DA) and make substantial progress towards the Stage 2 DA. So there should not be any disruption to members in 2016. But remember that part of this journey will involve some inconvenience and disruption when the Club begins to trade out of the 202-204 Pitt Street building. We will be asking for your patience and understanding, because it will all be worth it in the end.

The Committee and Management will continue to keep you informed of progress by electronic messages, the Club’s website, the ground floor display area and by Member Briefing Meetings, that will continue to take place at the appropriate stages.

I refer you to the two (2) photos taken on the night of the meetings held on 8 December 2015, on page 9. Thanks to the members for attending both of the meetings and for making the night truly memorable. 3,314 members voted by postal vote and in person at the first meeting with 93.6% in favour of the development.

The second meeting relating to ‘non-core’ property of the Club was attended by 180 members, with 98% (176) voting in favour of the resolution.

Members made it abundantly clear that they want this development to proceed and they are ready and willing to embark on this momentous journey.

“E-PUSH”

This year we will be pushing hard to obtain email addresses for everyone so that future communications can all be electronic only. If you have not already provided your email address, I urge you to do so now so that you can continue to receive important information about your Club.

Members who have given their email address and have received this magazine via email can enter the draw to win a $7,000 function in Omega Lounge by registering to win on page 24 in their e-Magazine.
If you haven’t received the quarterly magazine via email you can update your details by visiting citytatts.com.au/update-your-details and opt in to receive an electronic version of the Club magazine to enter this promotion. All members who receive future magazines via email in 2016 will have the chance to win other great prizes that will be advertised in each future edition.

TRADING UPDATE

Our Club traded well and consistently in the second half of 2015.
The run up to Christmas was strong with the Club’s overall trading performing well and all banking covenants being met.

2016 MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS

As you will be aware, the renewal period is drawing to a close. Members who have not renewed their membership should do so immediately.

Annual General Meeting, Committee Elections and Life Members

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2016 will be held on Tuesday 24 May 2016 at 6.00pm in the Celebrity Room.
The final date for Committee Election nominations is 29 April 2016. The Committee Election ballots will be determined by a postal vote by all eligible members. The results of the Committee Election ballots will be announced on 27 May 2016.
As usual, the Committee will be putting forward a resolution at the AGM to elect members to Life Membership of CTC. This year 334 members have attained 40 continuous years as a Gold or Silver member. If this resolution is passed, a celebratory luncheon will be held in the Club on either Friday 27 May or 3 June 2016 to present these members with their Life Membership badges.

Club Committee

As a result of regulatory change under the Registered Clubs legislation, from 1 January 2017 only nine (9) people are allowed to be on the governing body of a club in NSW. Our Club Rules currently say that our Committee must be comprised of ten (10) members. Accordingly, we intend to proceed with the election of ten (10) members at the upcoming Committee Election, which will take place in April/May 2016. The elected Committee will then select one (1) of its members to resign from the Committee, leaving a Committee of nine (9) from 1 January 2017.
Later this year, the Committee will propose a number of changes to the Club Rules. These changes will make our Rules consistent with the new requirement for a maximum of nine (9) Committee members, as per the Registered Clubs legislation. Other changes will be proposed to ensure that the Club can run effectively and efficiently now that the members have overwhelmingly voted to proceed with the air space development. Making a change to the Club Rules requires two (2) meetings to be held at least one (1) month apart. The cost of convening a meeting can run into tens of thousands of dollars, so it is important that the Committee carefully considers any changes to the Club Rules before putting them to the members. We are doing that now, and intend to present the proposed changes to you in the second half of this year. The Committee will keep members well informed at all times.

Children’s Christmas Party

The tenth annual Children’s Christmas Breakfast Party was held in Zest Restaurant on Tuesday 8 December 2015. The function was well attended and the focus was on two (2) inner Sydney
charitable organisations; The Girls & Boys Brigade and The Police Citizens Youth Club in Glebe.
Each of these charities support children, youth and their families who often experience significant socio-economic challenges in their lives. The children had a wonderful time. Santa was there and presents were distributed. I thank CTC staff for doing a great job in providing breakfast for all.
Thanks also to the following organisations who contributed to the success of the morning:
• Vok Beverages
• Treasury Wine Estate
• Robert Oatley Wines
• De Bortoli Wines
• James Brookes & Associates Pty Ltd
• Coopers Premium Beverages
• Moccopan Coffee
• Lion Nathan
• Haverick Meat
• Hong Australia
• Simon George & Sons
We can all be very proud of what our Club has done and continues to do in the charitable giving space.

Conclusion

Best wishes for a prosperous and healthy 2016 and I encourage you to continue to support your Club in 2016 and throughout the course of the airspace development journey. Your continued support will be
a very important part of the success of the overall project.
