Winning Design Airspace Development

Dear members,

I am delighted to announce that following a five-week international design competition a winning design has been selected for our Airspace Development.

Award-winning Australian architecture practice, BVN, has been unanimously selected by a panel of six esteemed jurors representing the City of Sydney, the Club and ICD to design the redevelopment of our Club’s airspace.

BVN’s design respectfully integrates City Tattersalls Club’s 194 – 204 Pitt St heritage building into a new design by utilising an intermediate podium to connect the ground-floor Club facilities and the new 49-storey tower above – featuring 246 residential apartments and a 100-room boutique hotel.

The winning design’s internal planning features a highly effective floorplan, which will maximise the views and amenity of the apartments and common spaces for members, while drawing natural light deep into the tower’s public and common spaces. The tower’s façade is contemporary and calm, and will add an elegant, landmark structure to the iconic Sydney skyline.

BVN will work closely with FJMT – the architect overseeing the redevelopment of the heritage components of our Club buildings – to ensure the tower is seamlessly integrated into our Club site.

Our Club has been part of the fabric of the city for 125 years, and this world class design will underpin its ongoing success as the CBD’s most welcoming social, cultural, sporting and business hub.

Our joint venture partners, ICD Property and First Sponsor Group, will now work towards finalising the design details with BVN and FJMT in order to submit a Stage 2 Development Application later this year, allowing construction to begin in 2022, on track for completion in early 2026.

The Airspace Development will ensure our Club plays a significant role in reactivating the Sydney economy, and I look forward to updating members on the process of the development.
